THE CLIENT

Megafreight is a South African global freight management company that has been in operation since 1981. With over 280 employees nationally, they operate both locally and internationally. Megafreight functions as “one big family” – lyrics that were chanted at their 40th birthday celebrations, which we were fortunate to attend.

THE CHALLENGE

As with many companies that have stood the test of time, a little brand alignment is often necessary. On top of that, Megafreight needed someone to take charge of their day-to-day marketing needs as they didn’t have the necessary in-house professionals available. They opted for an external agency which gained them access to all the necessary professionals and marketing spheres.

THE SOLUTION

Neither we nor the client felt that it was time for a new logo. Perhaps it was the nostalgia of their 40th year in the business that got to us. However, we successfully updated their overall appearance while keeping their well-known logo intact.
Our branding process began with a discovery session, which provided us with enough information to translate their ideas into visual concepts and strategies. Based on the session, we developed three style options, presented as stylescapes. The Homegrown stylescape stood out as the preferred choice, which we refined until it resonated completely with them. From that point on, this enhanced mood board guided all future decisions.
Although brand colours are often considered fixed, we discovered that over the years, additional shades of red, one of their primary colours, had been introduced in their materials. After re-establishing their primary colours, we could incorporate fresh secondary colours. We also created a slogan logo to complement their primary logo, as the existing secondary emblem no longer represented them accurately. Additionally, we designed a 40th logo that was used on their stationery throughout their anniversary year. This concept was further developed for their long-service certificates.
Next, we proceeded with stationery and creative technology designs. For Megafreight, this included letterheads, email signatures, business cards with distinct designs for each of their four national offices, a company profile, an email campaign template, and a slide presentation template.
As a growing business expands, it often becomes necessary to rethink and improve the layout and functionality of its website. We had the opportunity to develop a completely new website for Megafreight, driven by their updated look and feel. The content created for their social media profiles complemented the website and directed users back to it.
Of course, interesting content requires actual photos and videos, which we have added to their library, in addition to using stock footage. We were also involved in some decorative elements, credit must be given to Megafreight’s founder for the beautiful Ndebele pattern designed in Megafreight’s colour palette. This unique pattern now adorns their boardroom, where international clients are often hosted. The various plexiglass world maps hanging in their office have also found a place in select clients’ offices.
By year-end, our focus usually shifts towards corporate gifts and branded merchandise. Eksklusief was responsible for the designs, which were brought to life by exceptional printers and suppliers.

Megafreight’s monthly marketing retainer was crucial in maintaining and growing their revamped brand. Theirs was a particularly complete packing:

By implementing Google ads, Megafreight experienced a substantial increase in phone calls, with an average of up to 150 calls per month. With Google Ads standard conversion rates globally of around 3,75%, Eksklusief managed to achieve between 9 and 15% for Megafreight month-on-month. This demonstrated the effectiveness of our strategic approach and the success of our Google Ads campaign.

Furthermore, we achieved a consistent alignment of their brand across all platforms. This cohesive brand representation enhanced their credibility and visibility in the market, ultimately leading to improved results in their Google Ads campaigns and on social media.
